McCarthy-Scarsbrook out for months
Monday 17th March 08
Harlequins’ worst fears were realised when highly-promising prop Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook was ruled out for up to four months with a broken wrist.
The 22-year-old Londoner, who was hoping to play his way into contention for an England World Cup spot, suffered a complicated break in Friday’s 48-0 engage Super League defeat at Leeds Rhinos and was undergoing surgery on Monday.
"This is a real blow for us as a team as well as Louie individually," said coach Brian McDermott.
"He’s one of our leaders on the field, and we’ll certainly miss him in that respect.
"He’s been looking like a seasoned player in the last three or four games and he’s just starting to take shape.
"He was also looking good for a mid-season international spot, so it’s disappointing for him that this may rule out that opportunity."
Meanwhile Castleford Tigers' former Wakefield winger Michael Wainwright will miss Friday’s Super League derby against his old club and the Tigers’ home game against Warrington Wolves on Easter Monday with a knee injury sustained in Saturday’s 20-4 defeat at Hull KR.
