Yeaman champing at the bit
Friday 7th March 08
Great Britain centre Kirk Yeaman will be hoping to make up for lost time when he runs out for his first appearance of the season for Hull FC at St Helens.
Yeaman was forced to sit out the opening month of the engage Super League campaign after damaging an elbow in a pre-season friendly and watched in agony as his injury-ravaged team slumped to three defeats.
“After missing the first four rounds, I can’t wait to get back and playing against St Helens is an ideal starting point,” he said.
“I know they have injuries but they are still a top side and we will have to play very well to give ourselves a chance.
“But after three defeats in four we want to start running into some form and a win at Saints would be a massive confidence booster to everyone at the club.
“Like Saints, we have a few injuries but we still have some good players in the side and it’s up to the senior players to lead the way.”
Hull are set to give a debut to 19-year-old back row forward Mike Burnett after Matt Dale pulled a hamstring in their final training session and joined Shaun Berrigan, Richard Horne, Garreth Carvell, Ewan Dowes, Willie Man and Richard Whiting on the injury list.
St Helens scrum-half Matty Smith makes his first appearance of the season in place of the injured Sean Long while back row forward Jon Wilkin, who hurt a knee in the opening game of the season, is poised to return in place of Paul Sculthorpe.
