Dragons lose firepower

Monday 23rd February 09

Catalans Dragons have suffered a third major injury just two weeks in to the new engage Super League season.

Already without new signing Jason Ryles and French international Sebastien Raguin indefinitely with shoulder and knee injuries respectively, the Perpignan club have lost another experienced forward, Dane Carlaw, with a knee injury.

The former Brisbane Broncos back rower was laid out in a high tackle by Warrington Wolves’ England international Ben Westwood in the early stages of Saturday’s 40-20 win at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Carlaw, who turned 29 on the day of the game, recovered from the facial injury but later discovered he had sustained knee ligament damage that will sideline him for around six weeks.

“After losing Sébastien Raguin and Jason Ryles, it’s a huge worry for the club,” said football manager Sébastien Munoz.

“Dane was a major player of the beginning of this season. I feel bad for him because he worked very hard during the pre-season and was one of our best players in this season’s start.”
